What Is an RPM Revenue Calculator?

An RPM revenue calculator estimates the potential monthly and annual billing opportunity from a Remote Patient Monitoring program by applying Medicare's published RPM payment amounts to an estimated patient population. It's a planning tool, not a claims or billing system, and it doesn't access, store, or require any patient-identifiable information.

How the Calculator Works

Enter your total potentially eligible patient count, expected RPM enrollment, and how that enrolled group is likely to move through the RPM billing categories: device setup (a one-time code per patient), ongoing device-supply monitoring, and treatment management (with an optional additional time increment). The calculator applies the configured Medicare national payment amount for each corresponding CPT code. Setup revenue is shown separately from recurring monthly revenue, since CPT 99453 is billed once per episode of care, not every month.

Revenue Is Not the Same as Profit

The estimate above is gross revenue. Device cost, staffing time, software, and administrative overhead all affect what a program actually nets. Add the optional cost assumptions to see an estimated net opportunity and a break-even patient count alongside the gross figures.

Illustrative Example

Illustrative example only, not a real practice. A practice with 300 eligible patients and 55% RPM enrollment, where most enrolled patients are actively monitored and roughly half of those also receive treatment-management time, can see the resulting monthly and annual estimate using the calculator above with those numbers. Adjust the inputs to match your own practice — this is never a guaranteed outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

The calculator multiplies your estimated patient counts in each RPM billing category — device setup, ongoing device-supply monitoring, and treatment management — by the configured Medicare national payment amount for the corresponding CPT code, then totals the result. All patient-count inputs are estimates you provide.

CPT 99453 (device setup) is a one-time code per episode of care — it isn't billed again for the same patient every month, so the calculator reports it separately from the recurring monthly device-supply and treatment-management revenue rather than multiplying it across the whole period.

Yes. The Medicare Physician Fee Schedule applies a geographic practice cost index (GPCI) that adjusts payment by locality. This calculator uses national, non-facility average figures without a locality adjustment.

No. This tool is for educational and planning purposes only. Actual reimbursement varies based on payer, locality, provider status, patient eligibility, documentation, service requirements, and current Medicare fee schedules.

Current CMS guidance allows billing remote physiologic monitoring and chronic care management concurrently for the same patient as long as time and effort aren't counted twice toward both. See our CCM and RPM Together guide for detail.

CMS updates the Physician Fee Schedule at least annually. ChronicSync reviews the configured rates on the same cadence and whenever CMS publishes a new final rule.
